A new Lieux publics has just been born, nomadic and sedentary, permanent and ephemeral, at ease in corners of the city and centered on its base, in Marseille and in Europe, here and elsewhere…
For 10 years, Lieux publics has been located at the Cité des Arts de la rue, in the heart of the 15th arrondissement of Marseilles. This equipment, unique in Europe, has been rehabilitated by the City of Marseille in a former soap factory in the Aygalades district.
A giant laboratory, there is also Générik Vapeur and Ex Nihilo, two international artistic companies, FAI-AR - training dedicated to creation in space
public, or the Ateliers Sud Side, Lézarap’art, Karwan, the Gena collective, the Bureau des guides, à l'échelle…and all the artists who gravitate around these singular universes.
But beyond a workspace for artists, the Cité has become a place for shows, meetings, farmer's market, exchange of knowledge and workshops…
A common space, open to its neighborhood as well as to the world. Its stream and waterfall are in full renaturation, widening the field of possibilities of the site, new entrances for the public.
This tremendous work of changing uses has been held by ApCAR, the association for the Cité des arts de la rue. In order to link the development of the site and the artistic creation, it was collectively decided to merge the two structures, and entrusting Lieux public with the coordination roles historically held by the ApCAR.
A new Lieux publics has just been born, nomadic and sedentary, permanent and ephemeral, at ease in corners of the city and centered on its base, in Marseille and in Europe, here and elsewhere… And this ubiquity will still be more at the service of artistic creation, of meeting and sharing with the inhabitants of our territory.
