My name is Ann Carlson, I work in the field of dance. My work borrows from the disciplines of dance, performance, theater, as well as visual, conceptual and social art practices and takes the form of site-specific projects, ensembles dances, solo performances, and performance-video. Often organized in a series format, I develop performance structures or templates that can respond to multiple sites and circumstances over a period of years. The (real) people series is an ongoing series of performances ma with and performed by people gathered together by a common profession, activity or shared passion. These works have included performances by; lawyers, gardeners, nuns, anglers, ranchers, doctors. The Animal series are dance works made in collaboration with non-human animals. I have collaborated and performed with horses, dogs, chickens, goats, fish, turtles, and sheep. I continue a
solo practice resulting in a stage based work every decade. All the work examines issue of access and inclusion, attention and perspective and time.
