text description

Nick Steur is a Dutch performance/visual artist working primarily with materials such as stone, sand, steel and water. He graduated in 2011 at the Theatre Academy in Maastricht. Amongst other prizes Steur won the ‘Laureate young theatre’ at TAZ festival in Belgium and the ‘Scotsman Fringe First’ for best new writing at the Edinburgh Fringe in the U.K. He collaborated with renowned artists like Merlijn Twaalfhoven and Erik Kaiel. Various places such as Middelheim museum Antwerp, Kaaitheater Brussels and international art festivals invite Steur to bring us through his work, back to the ‘here and now’ and experience things we might take for granted in a completely different way. Currently he is living in Maastricht and supported by SoAP, Workspace Brussels and the Performing Arts Fund in the Netherlands.

Dommelhof is a provincial domain in the province of Limburg, Belgium. Founded as the first cultural centre of Flanders in 1968, Dommelhof evolved into a creation centre for contemporary circus and transdisciplinary arts. Dommelhof is organized in two platforms for artistic development, production, presentation and reflection. The first one is 'Dommelhof Circuswerkplaats'A "pôle de cirque" focusing on the research, creation and diffusion of contenporary circus. Dommelhof Circuswerkplaats also organises the festival Theater op de Markt. TODM is a festival for a broad audience. Every edition of the festival welcomes approximately 120.000 visitors in the city of Hasselt. TODM is also a creation and production festival. In other words a festival that works the whole year on new productions and hosts several companies in residency.
The second artistic platform in Dommelhof is C-TAKT which is focusing on transdisciplinary arts and emerging artists. C-TAKT is a co-operation between Dommelhof, C-Mine (Genk), SoAP (Maastricht) Platform 0090 (Antwerp), wpZimmer (Antwerp), Musica (Pelt) and IN SITU (European platform for artistic creation in public space). C-TAKT will set up artistic projects which explore the boundaries of disciplines, and which experiment with innovative forms of audience engagement.
Dommelhof offers a comfortable context for the artists in residence of both platforms (TODM & C-TAKT), including: 4 indoor rehearsal and creation spaces (theatre, dance studio, black boxes), outdoor spaces for circus tents, a technical atelier, hotel accommodation. Artists are supported in different ways (logistic, technical, artistic, financial, promotional, etc.). The residency programme results in sustainable and long term relationships with artists and creators. Some creators have become a kind of ‘in-house artists’.
Dommelhof /Theater op de Markt/C-TAKT is a member of several European co-operation projects, including IN SITU ACT, IN SITU Platform, (UN)COMMON SPACES, CircoSTRADA, CircusNEXT and FACE. This strong  international focus gives the opportunity to monitor innovations in the performing arts field. Moreover Dommelhof has always exchanged international productions with network partners, resulting into enriching presentations for our regional audiences, and to the introduction of Flemish artists in an international context.
