Eléctrico 28

Country : Spain

(UN)COMMON SPACES Associate artist

Eléctrico 28 is a collective which nurtures the ecosystem of the daily human (and animal) life displayed in open-air heart-and-humor-made immersive street performances.

The streets are Eléctrico 28’s inexhaustible work field (this could explain why they hardly work with scenographers). They see the street life as a natural multi-directional choreography of living beings under the sky and above mostly cemented ground, perhaps also grassy or sandy. While life is happening outside, Eléctrico 28 imbues it with little actions ranging from daily to fantastic, that question preconceptions and conventions of theatre and public space. Everyone who is consciously or unconsciously inside the play (passers-by, actors, audience…) can become everything at one point. If you look for Eléctrico 28, look for the intersection between life and theatre. There you will find them imagining and taking some notes and taking some (dramatic) actions.

It is from observing a place and its inhabitants that Eléctrico 28 usually starts from; understanding their position in relation to what happens. After understanding something, whatever, anything worth to be rolled out, they handicraft filters to communicate the way they feel and think. Most of the times these filters become the raw material for a performance; that is the case with three of their last touring projects: Expresso Encounters, Stellar Moments of Humanity and [The Frame]. Eléctrico 28 holds a ready-to-use collection of filters: Alina thinks that Eléctrico 28 is a ‘filters-to-see-the-world’ provider.

One of their most recurrent filters-to-see plays with the notion of obviousness, turning the daily insignificant-considered happenings into a display of irrefutable but revealing evidences. Spectators notice what is occurring. Many things deserve to be noticed. Eléctrico 28 is dedicated to understanding how the things with the particular gift of being visible can actually be seen. This simple change of perspective can lead to appreciation and even love of apparently insignificant daily life.

With their projects, they provoke an imaginative, playful, warm, witty and affectionate incitement, empowering spectators and passers-by to perceive the regulated order they are part of and opening windows for alternative tales and ways of relating to our surroundings.

Eléctrico 28 pretends to show the brutal beauty of stepping out of your house, walking the streets, crossing with the rest of fellow beings and seeing them in the light of the extraordinary (another of their treasured filters). They believe that looking with these eyes can save our walking-in-the-street-souls (and those of all those other city animals, too).

The final goal is to provoke a naïve new orders-based proliferated revolution.
