PLATFORM 2025 - 2028 Open call #1
My name is Danielle Emilie Olsen.
I'm 30 years old, I come from Bergen and I've been practicing my art as long as I can remember. After a spinal surgery in 2017, which unfortunately had several complications, art became my escape. That contributed to me being where I am today. With the use of art during the rehabilitation period, I found a new voice in which I could express what words could not . Art has given me the means to look forward and a reason to get up every day. After a long battle with bureaucracy, I fought my way back to school and started at KIB Bergen Art School, which has helped shape me into who I am today.
I mainly work with painting where I use acrylic and posca markers, and different materials and expressions. I have developed a love for installations, as it gives me the opportunity to explore working with all types of art forms. I work with everything from sculptures and clay to photography and video.
My application is an extension of a project I started in Alicante in Spain, focusing on the degree to which people who are either elderly, poor or handicapped are outcasts in society and in cityscapes. I spent 12 days in Alicante in December 2024, taking pictures of the diversity existing in the streets, then transferring the photos to special sheets and by the use of overhead, transforming them into paintings. I wish to make a series of paintings showing this type of differences in society; both from where I come from in Norway and different places around the world. This project is primarly paintings but I use different kinds of mediums aswell.
