MOOC

Create in public space

The first online course dedicated to creation in public space

On the 9th of September 2019, FAI-AR and IN SITU launched the first MOOC on art in public space, as a part of the IN SITU ACT programme. Illustrated with artistic projects representative of these arts at the European scale, it specifically draws them to question in what conditions public space can become a place of artistic expression, and to explore the relationship between the artist, the artwork and the space where it is created.

A New Popular Art

Publication

Artists all over Europe are developing new forms of performance and relationships with their audience, reaching beyond the usual “art spaces” – on the quest for a new kind of public space. By reaching beyond established cultural sites, achieving a close and direct contact with people and deeply focussing on processes of change in the urban environment, art can make an enduring contribution to the development of cities and citizens. In this way, populism can be forced to give way to art and to the people.

Emergence

Publication

Europe is the location of choice for artists who work for, in or with urban areas. By juxtaposing urban and natural landscapes, creating works involving local communities, using the city to make music, developing trails mixing a sensory approach and NTIC and more, artists looking to work out of the box are developing new artforms and relationships with audiences, contributing to the emergence of a new public space within Europe.
