Biography

Cyrine Kalai is a Tunisian dancer, choreographer and professor. Currently part of the Ballet de l'Opéra de Tunis, she has distinguished herself through her artistic commitment and dedication to dance. In 2022-2023, she created the choreographic project "The Beginning Of The End", supported by Dreams Chebeb. As a teacher at the IKAA Dance School, Cyrine has worked tirelessly to transmit her passion and expertise to the younger generation. With the rebirth of the IKAA company in 2024, co-directed by herself, she continues to train a new generation of Tunisian dancers. Cyrine continues her choreographic work with a committed approach, reflected by her current creation which addresses identity tensions and gender struggles.

Artistic project

Révélation explores the traditional boundaries between male and female genders through the prism of dance. It questions the standards established and opens a dialogue on the fluidity of identities, and therefore explores the influence of social conventions on our perceptions of roles.

The piece is based on Schubert’s 8th Symphony. This uncompleted work offers a powerful metaphor for transformation and unexplored potential. Cyrine Kalai draws on this symphony to plunge deep in the metamorphoses of bodies and identities. Dance becomes a way of deconstructing and reinventing roles, and bypassing limits. 

The artistic process includes contemporary, street and neoclassical techniques, while drawing inspiration from the actions of our daily lives. This choreographic approach welcomes the audience into the thinking process through text and dialogue. The interactions can be as big or small as the audience wishes, giving them the freedom to experience and reflect on the issue, and interact with the artists on their journey to understand their identities.

Format: performance

Size of audience: between a 100 and 200 people 

Specific location: rooftops patio 4 POV spaces - a space that allows for the audience to have a circular view of the performance, a space between indoor and outdoor.

Timing / duration: evening or night performance of 45min to 1 hour.
