PLATFORM 2025-2028
IN SITU PLATFORM is a four-year programme running from 2025 to 2028 that aims to identify and support 200 emerging artists. It proposes an innovative and efficient support platform to develop artistic creations at the European level in public spaces and non-conventional venues.
It will be developed in three successive one-and-a-half-year cycles. Each cycle will consist of two phases:
- Learning & discovering
- Producing & presenting
This first Open call targets around 60 emerging artists who will be part of the first phase. They will have access to :
- Online content to learn about artistic production related to art in public space
- Peer-to-peer exchange with experienced IN SITU artists
- An immersive lab with networking opportunities
Deadline for application : 31 January 2025
Selection results : End of February 2025
Q&A
The call aims at emerging artists. To be considered “emerging”, artistic projects should fulfil two of the following angles:
Aesthetic emergence Shedding light on innovative creative forms — Artists developing original practices pushing the limits of contemporary creation and rejuvenating the approach to the audiences. Visit the IN SITU website to discover the projects supported so far.
Geographical emergence Empowering local talents at the European level — Artists already touring and recognised locally but new to the European scene who are willing to develop their work beyond their borders and make their art visible within the European playground. Particular attention will be given to artists based in countries where art in public space sector lacks structuration, visibility and recognition.
Generational emergence Pushing forward a new generation of artists — “ Emerging ” also means new to the field of art in public space and newly creating for art in public space. So, it also encompasses artists with experience in another field and intending to work in public space for the first time. There is no age limit, but there is a clearly stated desire and strong belief that young artists at the beginning of their careers should be actively supported.
In the application, artists can explain their reasons for considering themselves as emerging. If a case arises where an artist is already working in public space but meets the criteria for being considered emerging in two other aspects, they should proceed with the application.
As a European network, the selection process will be carried out by partners from all over Europe, speaking various languages. To allow equal application reviews and to ensure clarity and consistency, we ask all applicants to submit their applications and documents in English. However, we wish to be as accessible as possible so if there are portions of your documents that are not translated, we are open to accepting them, provided that they do not hinder understanding.
The call is focused on projects that are not yet fully developed but are at an advanced stage, as these can benefit from the workshops and residencies offered through the program. The projects should be aimed at premiering in mid-2026. We intentionally refrained from providing overly specific criteria to avoid limiting the scope for applicants. So if you believe your project aligns with this description, we warmly encourage you to apply.
Currently, artists from the UK are unable to participate in the open call. We are actively working with our English partners to ensure that this will change in the next cycles (December 2025 and December 2026).
As IN SITU is a European network and the project is supported by the European Commission, the call is unfortunately only open to Europe residents and Swiss residents. If you are searching for mobility funds adapted to your situation, please visit On the Move website.
To ensure the accessibility of the call, all expenses associated with the immersive lab will be covered by IN SITU, including a fee of €1,500 as well as costs for travel, meals, and accommodation.
The video and text options have been added to allow everyone to apply in the easiest and most suitable way for their situation. You only need to choose one of the two options. If needed, you can also combine both.
The fee is calculated for each artist individually. However, the possibility of accommodating two or three artists during a lab will depend on the capacity of the lab host and the number of artists selected. Therefore, we cannot provide a definitive answer at this time but we will do our best to ensure that all requests are actively considered.
