Biography

We, Houcem and Feteh, are longtime collaborators who have developed a shared practice rooted in questioning established forms and norms. Our artistic journey began with our first project, which laid the foundation for our exploration of the Tunisian expression. Coming from a background in hip-hop, we have cultivated an approach that blends the raw energy of street movement with a deeper investigation of physical and emotional states. We focus on the intersection of contrasting emotions and their profound impact on the body and movement.

As Tunisian artists, our research is intrinsically tied to our heritage and contemporary cultural landscapes. We draw from both the richness of traditional practices and the evolving dynamics of current expressions. This duality allows us to question the exported perceptions of our culture while exploring its deeper, unspoken layers—what is heard, seen, and felt. Our practice extends beyond dance, engaging with a resilient community of interdisciplinary artists, including skaters, rappers, photographers, video editors, visual artists, and musicians. These collaborations have sparked our interest in the intersections between art forms and the role of performance as a medium for collective questioning and shared creation.

Artistic project

This project, entitled “Gerret El Anz”, involves a collaborative effort by four performers: two dancers, a sound designer and a visual artist. We hope to spark conversations about the resilience of cultural identity in the face of socio-political and economic adversity, and the role of art in envisioning and confronting potential futures.

We have observed paradoxical traits in contemporary Tunisian society that can lead to a distortion of expression influenced by these external forces. We aim to bring together material from a variety of sources, including Tunisian sounds, music, snippets of collective expression, traditional dance steps, historical archives and influences from modern lifestyles. Through this eclectic mix, we aim to create a choreographic/ performance/ installation project that not only reflects the current state of Tunisian expression but also imagines a possible dystopian future where these expressions are altered, if not lost.
