Abhishek Thapar (1985, Indian) he/him works as a theater/performance maker, performer, and puppeteer based in Amsterdam. For several years he has been building an artistic research and practice rooted in epistemologies from the post/decolonial practices, historical metafiction and storytelling.

His work delves into the plurality of narrative constructions engaging the audience in a critical dialogue about the social and political landscape we live in. Within it, he often creates intimate portraits with non-professional actors and builds immersive experiences and social experiments.
His selected works are Pluto (2016), My home at the Intersection (2017), Surpassing the Beeline (2018), Reverse Engineering (2019), Cow is a Cow is a Cow (2021), Resilient and Clean, Urgently Needed! (2021), How to end your wealth (2021).

He is currently developing a social practice and building a project called Lacuna Kitchen about invisible labor and unheard stories about the western gastronomy and hospitality industry together with kitchen workers at Kampnagel, Hamburg.

Abishek Thapar has been selected by our Dutch partner, Kees Lesuis, Artistic director of Oerol festival. He is of interest to Oerol because he uses the environment he finds himself in as a starting point for the work he creates. His work is connected to the environment, society or politics. He has also previously created work in which interaction with the audience is an important condition for creating a work. Thapar is a multidisciplinary artist, with a broad knowledge of living and working in other countries, bringing a wealth of knowledge, practices and stories to Terschelling that is valuable. For several years, Oerol has been exploring storytelling and how this art form can develop on various levels. Partly for this reason, Thapar is inspiring for the festival.
