Biography

WORKS AND WORKS is a newly formed Helsinki-based arts collective. Formed by three artists with backgrounds in fine arts, music, performance, dramaturgy and technology, their shared practice engages with public spaces, local communities and an active entanglement in social and material realities. The collective is drawn to artistic interventions’ potential to (re)negotiate the implicit logics of neoliberal landscapes and create spaces of encounter that exist both in and outside of traditional art institutions.
WORKS AND WORKS’ work is process-driven and open-ended, embracing experimentation, relationality and the redistribution of agency. The collective seeks to test fragile systems of care and commoning, investigating how art can invite participation, foster shared responsibility and propose alternative ways of living together.

Artistic project

333* Unlocked Bikes is a communal artwork, a social sculpture, an urban intervention and a fragile proposal on the possibility of self-governance. It begins with a statistic: around 333* bicycles are stolen every year in the Sörnäinen area in Helsinki. 333* Unlocked Bikes aims to turn that statistic inside out. What if we gathered the same amount of bicycles, restored them, left them unlocked, and let them return to the city? What if we reversed the flow in Helsinki or elsewhere in Europe?

333* Unlocked Bikes is a practice of letting go, of offering something without demanding its return.
