Prague, Czech Republic

with Cristina Maldonado

This year, five foreign and seven Czech premieres will present the international festival of contemporary art, 4 + 4 days in motion, as part of its 29th year. Its center of events, both artistic and theatrical, will this time be the Hybernská 2 building in Prague 1. The festival, the central theme of which is VNITRO, will take place in Prague from October 4 to 13, 2024, and other festival venues will be the Vršovický Vzlet, the Alfred Theater in the yard and ARCHA+.

Last year, when the art and theater parts were divided into two different periods of the year, this year the festival returns to the format of a joint autumn launch. In the theater part of the program, 7 Czech and 5 foreign premieres will be presented. The Burkicom Contemporary Physical Theater Ensemble will present their new film The Sun , which is an apocalyptic sci-fi about humanity, an image of the end we wish to experience. The premiere from Collective Coller will be of a completely different genre. The true story of the forgotten dancer Zdena Bronislawská Deylová, a member of the ballet of the National Theatre, whose journey led through dance, ballet, yoga, poetry, but also interrogations by the StB all the way to India, which fundamentally influenced her further life, will be portrayed by prominent kathak personalities in our country, Ivan and Anežka The Hessovs, in the dance production Já, ZdenaJana Látalová, Marta Trpišovská, Lea Švejdová are preparing the production Stojíme v pohnie , which is a movement-musical expansion into the world of funeral rituals, the tradition of mourners and mourners, in the context of history and the present. Děti U is a theater multi-genre project to support children's palliative care performed by the Tantehorse troupe and examines the artistic understanding of the theme of hope for a good life. The biggest mystery of radio broadcasting will be unraveled by the VOSTO5 file . The Tragedy of Liblice is an amplified mystery crime in which the traditional poetics of Vosto5 is combined with a Costa-Gavrasovsky spy thriller and a fallen TV crime scene. The last premiere on the program will be from the independent art group 8 people.

Among foreign creators, the Czech audience will be introduced to, for example, the Frenchman Antoine Defoort . According to Libération , the production Elles vivent (They live) is the only theatrical performance about politics that the audience should go see at this time. The Mexican Cristina Maldonado invites you to her immersive work Infinite Game , created from the stories and experiences of people from different countries of the world. At the communal table, it invites meditation on everyday practices related to memory, permanence, continuity, and material relations between the living and the dead. Collective memory is the theme of the production Kono atari no dokoka by French choreographer Martine Pisani and Japanese-Austrian performer Michikazu Matsune , which had its world premiere last year at the Avignon festival. The Norwegian multi-artistic collective VERDENSTEATRET will bring an extended film experience, a concert and a performance , and the Belgian ensemble Voetvolk will amaze with the explosive and action painting performance WASCO! , which reveals what freedom would look like if it had a shape, from the perspective of children and adolescents.

"Foreign productions as well as Czech premieres process original stories in documentary and fictional form that report on the contemporary world and reflect questions of human existence and social changes," says its dramaturg Pavel Štorek about the theater program.

Together with the theater part, the art exhibition project Scenes of the Crime will take place in the spaces of Hybernská 2 , under the curatorial leadership of Kristýna Hájková and Radek Wohlmuth. Commented tours, discussions and other accompanying program will be part of this program.
