Elmo Vermijs & Chihiro Geuzebroek @Oerol Festival 2024

with "KRAK installatieroute"

11 june.

How does a crafted landscape that cracks or otherwise grows disobediently generate a moment of listening? Can decay warn us or offer an opportunity to engage differently with the forest on Terschelling? From this curiosity, Elmo Vermijs and Chihiro Geuzebroek explore the stage of decay in the forest.

Do you hear the crafted landscape creak? Through an installation(route) and guided forest experience, we explore with curiosity the lessons of decay and neglected relationships. In this installation, artist Elmo Vermijs collaborates with decolonial activist Chihiro Geuzebroek to examine what we can learn from decay, how it opens new possibilities, and what we can learn from decomposers; the fungi that break things down. Decay is the third stage of the research project StagingWood. A coalition of foresters, users, scientists, lawyers, activists, artists, writers, and a local sawmill are working on a new relationship between humans and forests where the life cycle is central.

This Expedition can be visited daily from June 8th, between 11:00 and 17:00. For this Expedition, there’s an audio tour. Make sure you have a (charged) phone with you, optionally with earphones for the optimal experience.

Combine the installation and audio tour with a guided forest experience around the question, What is ripe for decline in you and your relationships? Book the forest workshop here.
