DE LOS MUERTOS in Milan is an installation accompanied by live, staged performances.
“A girl wears her deceased best friend’s shoes, so that she continues to live on and walk in the world”. There are gestures, objects, memories that connect the world of the living to that of the dead. This performance takes inspiration from the Etruscan and Latin cult of the Lares, which pertains in syncretic cultures such as in Oaxaca and Naples, which cultivated the idea of coexistence between dead and living.
ZimmerFrei’s work combines documentary research and live performance, staging some everyday gestures that link the living to their dead, who therefore live on in the present.
DE LOS MUERTOS adopts, Belgian philosophers’, Vinciane Despret’s ideas on the fact that those who die do not go away: instead of driving them away we should adopt them.
