Dávid Somló is a Hungarian interdisciplinary artist based in Budapest. His work focuses on sound, space and interactions. In his artistic practice he is creating theatrical/performative experiences exploring the relations of the physical, the social and personal space. He composes situations which are offering a complex, non-repeating outcome from simple elements, structures and instructions. In many of his work he uses portable sound sources to create an immersive environment without spatial separation between the performance and the audience. He often works in a site-specific context. He created performances, installations and interventions in foot tunnels, underground stations, a forest, a swimming boat, a Turkish bath, abandoned offices, a mining museum, a synagogue garden, private flats and various other public spaces. His work was performed in international festivals such as Prague Quadriennale (CZ), Festival d'Avignon (FR), Festival XS Bruxelles (BE), FIME Sao Paolo (BR), Placcc Festival (HU).

In 2020 he did a residency at Metropolis in Copenhagen (DK). There he worked on two questions: is every space spectacular? How can I create a cathartic effect in public spaces with the simplest materials of walking, sitting and droning sounds? During the residency he planned to methodically map and categorize various public spaces in terms of architecture, movement dynamics, social behaviour, sonic qualities. By analysing and then in reaction altering the pedestrian movements he is aiming to highlight the aspects and power lines of public spaces. From these movements he is creating simple choreographic forms and generative instructions playing with speed, direction, gaze, and physical presence in walking.
