The poetics of relationship is at the heart of Zankà’s practice
La Zankà gathers a joyful and polymorphous team around Zineb Benzekri. Director, author, sound, words and fabrics fiddler. Self-taught Marroco-Basque, she has co-directed the Random collective for 15 years. Through the friction of their materials, the members of Zankà create artistic experiences. They dissect, appropriate, disturb, re-edit, and compose situated narratives. Thus, the creations of Zankà are the result of encounters with the “here” whether they are exterior, domestic, collective, dedicated, urban or natural.
The poetics of relationship is at the heart of Zankà’s practice. One-to-one experiences at dawn, handholding, sidewalk dithering, ballets of opinions.
La Zankà, puts itself in a narrative with the people of the places where it passes. The fables that emerge are on the edge between documentary, fictional narrative and festive ritual. Fascinated by altered states of body and consciousness as well as the practice of cross-dressing and masks.
La Zankà celebrates what is overflowing, what is exalted, what is vulnerable, effervescent, what is doubtful, what is monstrous. It has an appetite for the flamboyance and intensity of the party, rituals and carnivals…
NB: Zankà, in the Maghreb, defines a space of socialization and empowerment located in the heart of the city.
